From a distance\u2014an average of 384,000 km\u2014we can see craters, plains, and all kinds of other lines and spots.
\nIn addition, of course, there are the different phases of the moon\u2014that is, which part is illuminated by the sun. The moon itself doesn\u2019t emit any light; it only reflects it! <\/p>\n

The Moon has no atmosphere, so the astronauts’ footprints on the Moon are still visible. However, the flag they planted on the Moon has since lost its color because solar radiation has caused the colors to fade. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s also true that we always see the same side of the Moon, so we never see the far side. Only a few spacecraft and the three astronauts from the most recent SpaceX mission have captured images of the far side. <\/p>\n

We\u2019ll probably never hold a world high jump championship there either, because since gravity is only 17% of what we\u2019re used to, you could easily jump 10 meters or higher!<\/p>\n

The moon also exerts a gravitational pull on Earth with the little gravity it has, and that causes the tides here.<\/p>\n

What’s more, the Moon moves 4 centimeters farther away from Earth every year! So in 2,500 years, the Moon will be a whole kilometer farther away! <\/p>\n
